The Capital District Jewish Holocaust Memorial is a 501 (c) (3) corporation established specifically for the development and management of a Holocaust Memorial based in the Capital District of New York for the purpose of memorializing the victims of the Holocaust and educating the public. Our solution to the fading memory of the Holocaust and the rise of anti-Semitism, bigotry and hate is to:
Build a permanent educational memorial
Memorialize those who have fallen and pay tribute to those who survived the atrocities of the Holocaust
Provide teachers, students and the general public with a platform to understand lessons about the Holocaust
Encourage visitors to reflect upon their responsibilities as citizens of their community and to have the strength to stand up and fight injustice
Objectives
Create a public memory that can be passed down through future generations of the atrocities of the Holocaust in the past, and of the need for tolerance and hope for the future.
Provide opportunities and encourage interaction with the Memorial to invoke personal interpretations of the meaning of the Holocaust.
Utilize factual statements and interpretive text in accordance with the overall message and educational objectives that have been developed for the Memorial.
Provide emotional connections to the experience of victims of the Holocaust through the use of symbolic objects and icons that are subtle and suggestive, and not literal.
Provide a sequence of experiences that will culminate with a sense of hope and feeling of a world without hate.
